McGill Electron Microprobe Laboratory
Software of Interest to JEOL 8900 Operators
This software is offered as a service to the microanalysis community.
No guarantee as to its suitability is offered or implied. Most of these
programs are used on a routine basis in this lab, but bugs still exist,
so you should use them with caution. If you have, bug reports, questions,
or suggestions for improvement I would be glad to hear from you. I can
be contacted at glennp@stoner.eps.mcgill.camcgill.ca
Home Grown Software
These programs are written in the Perl Scripting language, and
should run as is on all computers supplied by JEOL (except where noted).
They are supplied as tar archives. Click on the icon
or text to download
M2T
1.10
M2T converts JEOL *.map files into 256 grayscale tiff images. It is
menu driven, asking for the maps to be converted, the output directory,
and whether the output is to be compressed or not. For information on the
map size name etc, it reads the 0.cnd file associated with each map. This
program calls another program called specn (Ó
1996 Steeve McCauley) to do the actual conversion from a map file to a
tif file.
BURN
1.0
Burn is equivalent to the JEOL chart recorder, except that it allows
you to access the data. This is useful for things like working with beam
sensitive material, tracking carbon contamination rates, etc. If you have
access to the graphing program xmgr burn can display the results
graphically after acquisition.
ELOGHTML
1.0
Elog is an Electronic Logbook program which :
-
Puts shift data (Start, End, User, Account, Media used etc) in a database
file
-
Emails this data to the supervisor (or whoever)
-
If the probe is still running, monitors it and updates the database
file when analyses are finished (this works about 98% of the time)
This program uses HTML forms to present a graphic interface to the
user, therefore it must be run from a machine with an operating webserver
(no big deal to install). For a character based version of this program,
see the next item.
ELOG
1.0
Elog is an Electronic Logbook program which :
-
Puts shift data (Start, End, User, Account, Media used etc) in a database
file
-
Emails this data to the supervisor (or whoever)
This is a text only version of this program. At the present time it
does watch for the end of analyses. If you want this I could do it quickly.
Multisamp
0.8
Are you tired of switching from sample to sample when you are analysing
multiple minerals (alloys, ceramics etc) with multiple sample conditions?
Then multisamp is for you. When you start the program, it asks for a list
of samples you want to enter stage data for. After that you just change
from sample to sample by hitting two keys. When you are finished you set
the whole thing up in serial analyses and go home. The program is just
about finished, as soon as I can use the probe myself I'll finish it
GetCnd
1.0
This is a simple program to allow viewing or printing of a stored
condition files. Unfortunately it is written in Perl 5 (I needed 2 dimensional
arrays) , so it won't run on most probes. Maybe when JEOL upgrades the
system software to HP-UX 10 Perl 5 will be standard.
